SUMMARY:Wonderful Apple Day at Jeacocks Orchard\, Tring
DESCRIPTION:We had 2 stalls at the Apple Day event at Jeacocks Orchard in Tring on Sunday 1 October 2023.  One stall was campaigning to stop the use of pesticides and the other stall offering pollinator friendly plants in return donations\, locally grown from seed or cuttings in peat free compost and recycled pots. We also got the children involved in decorating our cardboard hexagons which people sign to show their support for the stop pesticides campaign. \nNet proceeds of the Plant donations is being sent to the Watford & Three Rivers Refugee Partnership.

SUMMARY:Launch of Great Big Green Week in Tring
DESCRIPTION:In Great Big Green Week from 10th to 18th June 2023\, Tring Team Parish (5 Churches – St Peter & St Paul in Tring and 4 village churches) are inviting people to explore the churchyards and record wild flowers and wildlife seen.  There will be paper reporting sheets\, but people may also use the iNaturalist app on their phones.  Vicky Duxbury is running a training event for a few people on the use of this app on Friday 2nd June 6 – 7 pm in St Peter & St Paul churchyard.  And\, in preparation for her ‘Nature Challenge’ in Great Big Green Week\, she is holding a drop-in session for members of the public in the churchyard\, to help them with recording wildlife using the iNaturalist app.  This will be on Saturday 3rd June 2.30 – 4.00 pm.  Ideally\, people will need to have downloaded the iNaturalist app beforehand. Tring’s new mayor\, Nigel Nutkins\, is launched the event at the Farmers Market.

SUMMARY:Fairtrade Fortnight 27th February to 12 March 2023
DESCRIPTION:We see the Fairtrade label of the food we buy every week such as bananas\, coffee and tea. Other products like wine\, chocolate\, biscuits and flowers are also available under the Fairtrade scheme. \nBut what does it mean? The Fairtrade Foundation is an independent\, not for profit organisation that works with 1.9 million Farmers and Workers across 71 countries to ensure they get fairly paid for their produce and labour. This means that these Farmers and Workers have a decent livelihood to put food on the table regularly\, get medical help when needed and educate their families. This Fairtrade Foundation breaks the cycle of poverty by eliminating exploitation by big food corporations. \nWe are in the middle of Fairtrade Fortnight so it is the perfect time to check out the food you buy and see if you can switch to a Fairtrade alternative. Just look for the Fairtrade Symbol. \nThere are also a good number of cafes and restaurants serving Fairtrade tea and coffee in Tring.  Please give them your support.  They will be displaying the Fairtrade symbol in their windows. \nWe are proud that Tring is a Fairtrade Town\, and we thank you for your continued support.
