Fairtrade
A Fairtrade Community
Tring is a Fairtrade Community (formerly know as Fairtrade Town). We gained Fairtrade Town status with the Fairtrade Foundation in October 2007 and since then the Fairtrade Town status of Tring has been regularly monitored and promoted by our group and successfully renewed over the years.
During Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 we visited the wonderful shops and cafes in Tring and the surrounding area to chat about Fairtrade. We were delighted that many already choose to serve Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar. Please look out for the window stickers or ask about Fairtrade credentials when you visit. Let’s keep our community a Fairtrade Community.
What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade makes a huge difference to the lives of people who grow and produce goods around the world. When you see the Fairtrade mark you can be assured that the Fairtrade standards have been met and a Fairtrade Premium has been given to the local community to pay for projects such as improvement of health care and the local environment. Fairtrade is a rigorous system of certification that aims to ensure a set of standards are met in the production and supply of a product or ingredient. For farmers and workers, Fairtrade means workers’ rights, safer working conditions and fairer pay. For shoppers it means high quality, ethically produced products.
Choosing Fairtrade means standing with farmers for fairness and equality, against some of the biggest challenges the world faces. It means farmers creating change, from investing in climate friendly farming techniques to developing women in leadership. With Fairtrade you change the world a little bit every day. Through simple shopping choices you are showing businesses and governments that you believe in fair and just trade.
Guide to local and Fairtrade
Download our latest guide to Fairtrade and local shopping and eating out. A handy compilation of local shops and restaurants where you can source fairly traded or local produce. The guide also highlights places which offer plastic-free options in collaboration with Plastic Free Tring.
Celebrating Fairtrade
To celebrate 30years of Fairtrade we highlighted the difference that opting for Fairtrade makes at Tring’s Summer Carnival 2024. Local shops donated Fairtrade goods to create two amazing hampers which we raffled to raise money for the Fairtrade Foundation.
